JiuZhaigou Valley is a deep valley of stunning natural beauty located in north Sichuan that covers about 620 square kilometers and was declared a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1992. The name JiuZhaigou refers to the 9 Tibetan villages that are situated here. The lakes, of which there are more than 100, vary in size and shape and sparkle with color in the brilliant sunlight. More peculiarly, the lakes here will show different colors in different season, and there is no word can describe the magic color accurately. By the way, Fall is the best time for visiting.

How To Enjoy The Great Wall Of China Tour01.15.08

How To Enjoy The Great Wall Of China Tour by Sally Meyers

The Great Wall of China is one of the most highly visited tourist attraction in Beijing, China. It is in fact the symbol of China, because anytime you see a picture of the Great Wall, then you know that picture has something to do with China.

The Great Wall has been recently added to the one out of the twenty one finalists running for the New 7 Wonders of the World to be decided in July 2007. I for one believe that the Great Wall of China would make it to this list, as this monument is considered to be one of the most appealing attractions all over the world because of its architectural and historical significance. Enlisted in the World heritage site by UNESCO in 1987, the Great Wall winds up and down stretching across hills, lowlands, deserts and plateaus extending from the eastern border of China to its western border; with a history of about 2500 years ago to the time of the Warring Period, the Great Wall has served China a great purpose in terms of defense in the ancient time and it is now one of China’s most booming tourist destinations. The history of the Great Wall of China shows how history, culture, defense and political administration are intertwined to finally bring out a site which now serves for entertainment and leisure purposes.

Since the Great Wall stretches across various provinces, the same goes for the best time to visit the site; the scenery from across the wall in different seasons is different and allows you to see the wonderful and vast landscape of China. In spring time, all the plants and trees are lush green with beautiful displays of the wall looking fresh in bright green colors. Spring time is always the best time to visit the Great Wall because the wall is not always crowded with tourists. In the summer and autumn, the flowers and plants are more blooming than other periods of the year and a view from above makes the wall look like a long silver necklace. This time is always the best time to climb the Great Wall.

Fall is also a great time to visit the Wall as the peaks and hilltops are displayed in colors creating an amazing and perfect view. Winter which is usually the best time to view the entire length of the wall turns the landmark to snowy frosted scenery. Most tourists do not like to visit at this time because of the bitter winter cold.

To travel and see the beautiful landscapes on the Great Wall of China, you have to climb it from the most accessible section. The most popular sections of the Great Wall for tourists are at the Simatai sections, Badaling sections and the Mutianyu section. These sections have all played their roles during the construction and destruction of the Great Wall of China during the revolution. The Simatai section, northeast of Beijing is the quiet section of the wall which is still preserved the way it was since hundreds of years ago; this is why it is good to take a long quiet walk on this section.

The Badaling section of the Great Wall was the first section to be opened to tourists and locals; this is why many tourists come to this part of the wall. The Mutianyu section is the furthest section of the Great Wall; this area is the largest section of the Great Wall which is still being preserved and has a low number of visitors due to the distance. Many travelers from around the world are eager to visit and climb the Great Wall of China. For foreign tourists interested in this travel project, it is best you seek the services of the reliable tour operator in China to help you make the arrangements. There are a wide variety of package tours designed to suit your Great Wall of China Tour and making it a memorable one.

How to Shop, Bargain, Bid Prices in the Streets of China01.13.08

by Almario Macion

PROBLEM: Dealings with a street hawker and bargaining for the lowest price you can get for a favorite stuff which drives you crazy to own. You don’t have knowledge on the native language of the land – Mandarin.

SOLUTION:

1. Approach the vendor and talk in English (or your native language).

2. Ask the vendor “How much the stuff is?” Vendor notices you’re a foreigner and he/she is of course well-prepared than we (buyers) are. So he/she carefully raises his/her hand which bids a certain amount shown through the number of fingers. Say for example 10 RMB(Chinese Currency) vendor shows you 10 fingers instead of 5 RMB, originally. Got it? Now..

3. Carefully raise your hand and wave NO (as in STOP, you wanted another cheaper price right?). I am assuming you are totally ‘naive’ of the local language in this situation, so…

4. Go get a pen and paper and write down how much you actually want to buy your favorite stuff, meaning, make a quick bid through paper and pen. Why not show it through your hands or fingers? I’ll talk about that later, but for now, let’s use the power of the pen and paper.

5. Write down on paper how much you want to bid.

6. Wait for vendor to write his/her price. If you are not satisfied with what the vendor bids, do a re-write and another price bid.

What to do if the vendor does not adhere to your bids?

7. Use FEET power - leave the scene, slowly, waving your hand, moving away from the vendor and nodding your head, as the price is not right; we’re now making some little bargain teases as well as doing business connections with the vendor. Make sure that the vendor is staring at you while you leave the ‘bidding’ scenario. There’s a big percentage that the vendor would change the price, make a quick jot of another new bid and follow you, or in some scenarios, perhaps chase you! (It really depends on the business case).

8. Continue making your little steps, away from the vendor. If vendor continues to follow, STOP moving (we don’t want to spoil this opportunity – strike while the iron is hot!), and approach the vendor and see what was written down as a new price bid on paper. If you are satisfied with the fresh bid, grab it, and take home your favorite stuff.

Well, if it does not work on the first place, you just have to repeat the above steps ’til you get your most attractive lowest price bid, but always remember to keep this vendor as your small business connection. You may be proud about what stuff you discovered from him/her and be happy to refer your friends.

LAST QUICK NOTES (A poor man’s receipt)

Street hawkers in China don’t usually have receipts on hand and they keep moving around the city just like “gypsies”. If you wanted a receipt, try getting the original paper where you jot down your “price bids”. You might be able to use it as a form of a receipt, say for example, your favorite stuff breaks after a week, and you need a replacement from that same vendor. Make it a point to get receipts on whichever stuff you buy in Xiamen or from whichever city in China you drop shopping, be it a street hawker or the big time shops. Receipts really work and you would surely need them when the time comes!

I’m not guaranteeing the shopping tricks in this article would work for you 100%, you would need to do some “shopping and bargaining experiments” and see what really works.

I hope you enjoyed this article at EzineArticles and see you later for more. For the meantime, enjoy learning , shopping and bargaining and have pure fun in China : )

Shanghai Is Truly A Rewarding Experience01.11.08

By: Wolfgang Jaegel

Shanghai, also known as Hu, is such an alluring destination that it makes a visitor feels as if he is in a European city. When Beijing is renowned as the capital as well as the political center of China, Shanghai is regarded as the financial, industrial, and commercial center of the country.

The largest metropolis in the country, Shanghai is situated on the southern banks of the Yangtze River and is along the East China Sea coast. Once a typical seaside village, Shanghai gained the status of a county in August 1291, during the reign of the Yuan Dynasty. But, now the city has become a prosperous international metropolis, with a blend of both traditional and modern Chinese features.

Occupying an area of about 2500 square miles, the metropolis is divided into two regions by the Huangpu River such as Puxi, situated on the west banks of the river and boasting some of the most cultural spots in the region, and Pudong - a well-developed area comprising superb roads, subway lines, bridges, and other prominent infrastructure facilities, all of which have attracted many local business firms as well as foreign companies to invest here. Shanghai also serves as an important seaport in the country.

Bestowed with title ‘the Oriental Paris’ or ‘the Paris of the East,’ Shanghai provides a feast of attractions to people touring the destination. The greatest of the attraction in the metropolis would be its interesting temples and monasteries, such as, Jade Buddha Temple, whose focal point is, as the name indicates, the Jade Buddha located within the temple hall.

Longhua Temple and Pagoda - the oldest as well as the largest city in the region; Jing’An Temple, which is much famed for its architecture reflecting the Song Dynasty; and Confucian Temple. Covering an area of about 150,000 square meters and surrounded by the government office edifices and the Grand Theater, People’s Square is another popular attraction in Shanghai. With expansive green area and huge trees, the square includes attractions such as an elegant musical fountain and Bird and Flower Market, from where people can shop plants, fish, and birds.

A visit to Shanghai would be incomplete without taking a tour to the Yuyuan Garden situated in the heart of the city’s Old City. Built during the period of the Ming Dynasty, the garden’s highlights, among many others, are Sansui Hall, erected in Qing Dynasty style; Big Rockery, which is regarded as the best rockery of the Southern China; Jade Rock, one of the three exquisite rocks in China; and Stone City, with an astonishing array of stone sculptures as well as engravings.

For those interested in the rich history of the area, a visit to the Shanghai Museum would be a great experience, which has an incredible selection of more than 100000 Chinese relics covering calligraphy, bronzeware, stone carvings, pottery, jadeware, ancient coins, and more.

Attractions in Shanghai also include modern technological wonders such as the 468-meter high Broadcasting and Television Tower of Oriental Pearl, which is also the third tallest TV tower in the world. Shanghai provides incredible options for children, the evidence for which is attractions such as the Shanghai Children’s Palace, offering an amazing range of activities such as art, dance, music, and computer science.

Other not to miss attractions in the metropolis are Shanghai Bund, which is regarded as one of the famed architectural symbols of the region; and Xin Tian Di, which is akin to Clarke Quay in Singapore and Lan Kwai Fong in Hong Kong.

Apart from these, Shanghai provides opportunities to enjoy a range of activities. For instance, the destination is a shopper’s paradise, with areas like Nanjing Road, packed with stores from high-end to traditional. One can shop everything from silk and embroidery items to sculptures and fashionable items. Additionally, one can enjoy a range of cuisines while your stay at Shanghai, as the city renders a host of culinary delights that are focused on the traditions of Beijing, Yangzhou, Sichuan, and Guangzhou.

With these astounding ranges of attractions, the city, in fact, has become one of the hotspots of the modern country. Hence, the city has accommodation options to cater to the increasing number of tourists flocking to the city per year. Many of the hotels are within the easy reach of almost all facilities and attractions in the region. Further, the hotel rooms are well appointed, and come with all amenities and facilities.
